Shadows

Weightless meanderings of a burdened body,
playful,mischievious, onlookers delight,
surprisingly near yet seldom in grasp,
a moments's mistake and they are out of sight.

Never has there been more selfish a friend,
appearing for share at behest of a spark,
long and treacherous when times descend,
left are you lurking for self in the dark.

For moments they do, you're awestruck to core,
at splendour and genius of nature's design,
they rise and fall like waves in an ocean,
they rise and fall leaving smiles benign.
